Michelle's Movie Corner: 'Frozen'

Hello there!  My name is Michelle, and I've been writing movie reviews for quite some time over at Buzznet.  I am going to start posting them over here as well!  Let's get started! Last week I went to check out Disney's latest, Frozen! What better day to do my recap on that then a snow day? Anyone else off?
It is safe to say that Catching Fire has officially cooled down.  Because, you should all go check out Frozen, it was pretty great.  I found the first half hour to be a bit slow.  It was basically the back drop of the movie, starting with the two sisters, Anna(Kristen Bell) and Elsa(Idina Menzel), as little girls and explaining how Elsa has these powers to basically freeze things? She's a snow goddess? I don't really know why she got the powers, but she was born with it. I don't want to spoil anything, but Elsa becomes afraid of her powers and basically shuts herself away from society and her sister. And they grow to be polar opposites, Elsa just wants to avoid everyone and Anna wants to go out and see the world.

But the movie really starts and picks up when Elsa has to come out of hiding for her coronation day to become queen.  Without giving too much away, things take a wrong turn and Elsa runs away to get away from everyone and Anna goes to find her.  Elsa's powers are a lot stronger than she thinks.  And the movie goes on with Anna finding her way to Elsa with the help of Kristoph(Jonathan Groff) and his reindeer Swen.  They end up bumping into my absolute favorite part of the movie Olaf(Josh Gad) the snowman who loves warm hugs.  If you guys thought I was obsessed with minions, watch out, Olaf is my new animation obsession. I mean he was the absolute cutest thing EVER! I actually might go doodle right after this... But there is a major love twist that I was just like DISNEY! I can't believe you tricked me! Didn't even see it coming. You'll have to go watch to see what I'm talking about!

Like I said, once you get past the first half hour, it really picks up and becomes really good. Basically when Olaf makes his appearance, it's all uphill from there, not in terms of the storyline, but in terms of the quality. The movie focuses on Anna's character, but I liked Elsa better.  The love story was all for Anna, and I wish Elsa had one too... It is hard to watch this movie without drawing comparisons to Wicked, especially since Idina Menzel is a voice, and Elsa not only sounds like, but is also very similar to Elphaba.  The storyline and songs are sometimes similar, but not in a bad way.  I love Wicked, so I did not mind. Another thing is, the animation was so clearly from the creators of Tangled, because they literally looked like the same characters, Rapunzel and Flynn even make a random little appearance!  That being said the animation was pretty great, especially of the ice creations.  It isn't Brave quality, but it's pretty nice.
If you enjoy Disney, or just animated movies, check this out! It's great for everyone, and perfect for this time of year! I just got snowed in, and I was like, it looks like Frozen outside!
Grade: B+
